إن الفکرة وراء زيادة القدرات البشرية من خلال تقنيات يمکن إرتداؤها تستحوذ على فکر الإنسان منذ تاريخ طويل بدأ من النظارات وساعات الجيب، التي تم إبتکارها لتعزيز الرؤية وتتبع الوقت، وأيضا فکرة إضافة "الأجهزة الإصطناعية" إلى أعضائنا الطبيعية من أجل تحسين الحواس کالسمع واللمس. واليوم، مع التطور الهائل في التکنولجيا الرقمية وإنتشار الحوسبة في کل مکان وتقلص حجمها، تبحث التکنولوجيا القابلة للإرتداء عن فرصة لدمج أجهزة الحاسب وأجهزة الإستشعار مع جسم الإنسان على نحو يسهل التواصل بين الإنسان والمکونات الحاسوبية التي يرتديها. حيث تم دمجها في الملابس والأحذية والحلى، والإکسسوارات کالساعات والنظارات وکل ما يمکن للإنسان إرتدائه، وذلک لتسهيل الحياه اليومية للمستخدم وإضافة عنصر المتعة والرفاهية، حيث تتيح تقنيات العرض المرنة الحديثة، والمنسوجات الإلکترونية، والحوسبة المادية Physical Computing فرصاً للتفکير في تضمين هذه التکنولوجيات لتزويد المستخدم بوسيلة للتفاعل مع المعلومات الرقمية أثناء التنقل في العالم المادى (خلال حياته اليومية). ويمکن للتکنولوجيا القابلة للإرتداء أن تمثل دور أساسى وهام في رعاية کبار السن، وتسهيل حياتهم وأنشطتهم اليومية. ومساعدتهم في الإعتماد على أنفسهم ودعم إستقلاليتهم حيث يمکن إستخدام أجهزة الإستشعار، والتتبع لرصد وظائفهم الحيوية، ومتابعة حالتهم الصحية عن بعد وإرسال إستغاثات في حالات الخطر.
وتکمن مشکلة البحث في أنه مع تقدم العمر، وضعف الوظائف الحيوية للإنسان وقدرته البدنية والذهنية بشکل عام فإنه يواجه صعوبة في إستخدام التکنولوجيا المتقدمة والتفاعل معها ولذلک: يحتاج کبار السن إلى أجهزة وتطبيقات ذات طبيعة خاصه تساعدهم في تسهيل ممارسه حياتهم، وأنشطتهم اليومية، وتراعي إحتياجاتهم وقدراتهم الجسدية والذهنية. کما أن العديد من الأجهزة القابلة للإرتداء الخاصه بکبار السن يغلب عليها الطابع الآلى والطبى مما يسبب لهم الإحراج والشعور بالعجز، وعدم قدرتهم على الإعتناء بأنفسهم. مما قد يدفعهم إلى العزوف عن إستخدامها. ولذلک ويهدف البحث إلى الإستفادة من التطور التکنولوجي الهائل، والتکنولوجيا القابلة للإرتداء في خدمة کبار السن والإعتناء بهم؛ من خلال تزويدهم بالمعلومات والمؤشرات الحيويه الهامة بسهولة، وبصفة دورية. والعمل على تصميم وإظهار هذه الأجهزة القابلة للإرتداء بمظهر جمالي في هيئة حلى أو مکملات أو إکسسوارات لرفع الحرج عن من يرتديها، وعدم إظهاره بمظهر المريض الذى يحتاج للرعاية.
