Develop new sustainable treatments for the tears and missing parts of Pharaonic shroud from Ahensia excavation

Abstract

This paper deal with a new methodology for treatment of tears existed in archaeological shroud by completing the missing parts with adding layer, made of useless samples separeated obviously from the object. The fragments of the pharoanic shroud were found in one of the excavation sites in ahensia beni suef, Egypt. And we have no specific date for manufacturing but it may be date to phoaronic period , as it was found among collection dated to the same period.in addition to similar features between the original object and pharoanic shroud dated to early dynastic period. Scientific procedure was followed for treatment, beginning with identification of raw material and its state of deterioration was performed by stereo microscope ,SEM and colorimetry measurement . furthermore, state of object after treatment . the results reaveal that the object was made of raw linen, and indicate to its bad state of damage, drying and lost of its physical properties and morphological appearance .color measurments show the darkness regions existed all over the pieces , the yellowish color of the whole linen fiber as aresult of ageing and the progress achieved after restoration . all needed treatments were made such as Mechanical, chemical cleaning by appropriate brushes and organic solvents, results were an acceptable especially after washing the piece with moderate soap and distill water ,then ,then restoration by completing the missing part with adding layer of grinding natural fibre, mixing with paraloid B72 dissolving in tuluine 10%. Finally fixed it on support of natural linen. Fixing was done on natural linen stretched on wooden frame was done carefully by zigzag stitches using thin linen threads .archeological and a technical study was discussed.
