The Role of Environmental and Cultural Standards in Achieving the Competitive Advantage of Exported Egyptian Furniture

Abstract

Furniture industry has taken a few steps forward in the first decade of the twenty-first century to became one of the essential industries that capable of meeting different needs of the Egyptian market as well as providing a surplus for exporting worldwide, which helped in strengthening the Egyptian economy for both on the individual level with the consequent increase in job opportunities, reducing unemployment, raising average wages and raising the standard of living of the population, also at the social level by raising foreign exchange reserves in the Central Bank, Unfortunately, it witnessed a significant decline with the beginning of the second decade until our present time.
Therefore, the research discusses the development of furniture export over the past two decades, determining the reasons for the decline in Egypt's furniture exports. It also examines the current needs of the global market and the organization and development of the industrial system with the aim of increasing the competitive value of Egyptian product and developing Egypt's furniture exports abroad.
The research also studies and analyzes the role of furniture design based on quality, innovation and inspiration from the Egyptian heritage in order to enhance the reputation of Egyptian industries in the world.

RESEARCH IMPORTANCE
Focusing on the main deterioration factors of the furniture industry in Egypt, and putting forward the Egyptian furniture exports decline's reasons, and then contributing to the Egyptian furniture exported a broad’s design upgrading.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
1- The Egyptian furniture industry is restricted both in terms of the lack of design capacity or in the lack of the available adequate professional design services to furniture manufacturers.
2- Egyptian furniture exports decreasing to some countries as a result of the global markets' public taste shift from classic to modern, in which Egyptian furniture faces fierce competition with other countries.
3- The furniture export industry was negatively affected by the new COVID-19 pandemic and the decrease in external demand for furniture, which negatively affected sales and exports abroad.
The research concludes with the need to be keen to upgrade the Egyptian furniture, and to open new Egyptian furniture markets in all countries of the world, by conducting research on the internationally popular furniture, then setting up professional training programs for workers, in order to prepare workers to produce more professional furniture so that it can compete with global markets.
