Interactive digital technologies in designing interactive furniture accessories with an Islamic character “A design study for a hotel room”

Abstract

Tourism investments in the advanced countries have been depending on the digital and intelligent technologies to the extent that they have spread across the tourism sector, which contributed in attracting tourists and achieving an investment boom in this sector.
In this sense; tourism in Egypt now doesn’t only depend on its historical and natural attractions, as it has extended to the consideration of continuity and utilization of all tourism resources; in order to provide an industry and services that offer high luxury to the tourists.
As a result of digital technologies application and scientific outcomes utilization in all fields; it has become logical that the designers turn to apply (utilize) these technologies to produce designs that manifest the creative harmonization with the elements of digital technologies.
Thus, this research has focused on studying how to utilize these digital technologies to create designs for interactive furniture accessories that keep up with the times; with the emphasis on Islamic character manifestation. Therefore, the research topic focused on studying how to link the digital technologies with the Islamic motifs (the Islamic heritage) to design interactive furniture accessories for hotel rooms. In order to explain the role that interactive digital technologies play in the sector of hotel services, and their reflection on the designer’s thinking; through designing interactive furniture accessories with an Islamic character. Moreover, to reach innovative design thinking in the process of designing interactive furniture accessories with an Islamic character. One of the most important results is that the integration between interactive digital technologies and Islamic motifs can assist the designer in creating new formations and discover new dimensions for furniture accessories design that attract tourists. Therefore, I recommend the designer must acquire the knowledge about the methods of interactive digital technologies in the field of hotel furniture accessories design; and follow-up the developments in this filed; in order to keep up with the times and be able to create and compete.
