A new perspective on designing tourist storefronts through the philosophy of Islamic architectural vocabulary (An applied study of a restaurant facade and a café)

Abstract

Tourist shops are considered one of the basic, main and important activities in the field of interior design, which is linked with both human and architecture in the natural environment, achieving different dimensions, humanism, functional design, etc., depending on modern design vocabulary and techniques that lead to success in design. And make it the realizer of all its functions and the perfection of its performance, and understanding aspects of the issue of the intellectual link between Islamic heritage and contemporary, and how it affects the field of designing tourist commercial storefronts, whose importance lies in the fact that it represents the impression that the recipient takes on the tourist commercial stores, as it is a tool. The recipient through the integration of the design vocabulary and the use of new and innovative elements of the presentation and the problem of the research lies in the occurrence of transformations, changes and intellectual polarizations in the design of commercial storefronts, especially tourist ones, which affected and reflected the loss and lack of identity and heritage of the designer in his designs of cultures and the extent of the influence of Western cultures. In technology, it has led to the existence and spread of design trends that lack an identity, which calls for a trend towards an emphasis on preserving the Islamic identity.
The research aims to benefit from the vocabulary of Islamic architecture in designing the facades of tourist shops with modern techniques and materials. And the link between Islamic heritage, identity, contemporary, and design thinking in Egypt.
The research imposes simplicity from the latest commercial design methods. Choosing a simple design does not always express sophistication and distinction, and this does not mean that the choice will be easy because simplicity means the use of modern techniques and materials and at the same time simple and this means that all the details will be more noticeable. The formulation of the Islamic architectural vocabulary in a simple and contemporary way.
And returning to the Islamic style when creating designs for commercial facades, to add touches to modern designs, which gives a feeling of nostalgia for the past.
