Sustainable Landscape Design in Historic Areas

Abstract

Abstract: Globalization has greatly affected the shape of cities in various parts of the world, especially the map of archaeological sites. Economic competition has put all countries in unfair competition. There are cities that have competitive advantages, while other countries suffer from several problems that they must overcome or deal with in order to be able to attract Tourism including environmental design.
As the concept of sustainability has dominated on all aspects of life as a requirement to preserve the environment. Environmental design has also been linked to this concept to a great extent, becoming one of the fundamentals on which the contemporary environmental design is based. Although the environment is the main source of the raw materials and natural resources upon which life depends and man leans on to meet his needs, there is a noticeable decrease in these resources as a result of wrong practices or rational consumption.
This made sustainable design the focus of attention and study of all countries.
"Perhaps preserving and developing historical assets and heritage sites is gaining priority today in the policies of the international community and local governments, because of the main role that it can play in promoting tourism and increasing economic opportunities" 1.
Then efforts should be gathered, starting by studying and planning for the development of Historical Areas, to the implementation of preserving these areas and achieving the desired benefit from them without compromising or affecting them.
Therefore, we can admit that application of sustainability principles is essential when dealing with the landscape design of these areas.
Research problem: There is a lack of awareness of the big role of Landscape design in historical places. Also relying on traditional methods with no concern to the principles of sustainability, which leads to many negative effects on Historical sites.
Research methodology: The research follows the analytical method
The Importance of Research: Focusing on sustainable landscape design to promote the application of sustainability as an imperative for the present and future needs. In addition to achieving aesthetic and functional values in Historical sites, which give a civilized image of society. As well as reducing the negative impacts of the surrounding environmental factors.
Research objectives: Finding sustainable landscape design alternatives to replace the traditional design methods, that Keep up with the aesthetic values of Historical sites and support their conservation and preserve natural resources.
