The effectiveness of using peer teaching strategy in teaching Book design Course and its impact on students

Abstract

There are different types of teaching strategies to choose from due to the different education stages as well as the taught curricula. Each curriculum has its own nature that requires its teacher to choose the right strategy that matches it.

Modern teaching strategies vary according to the visionary changes of the educational process, while it used to depend on memorizing and recitation teaching strategies now are broadened to cover the Perceptual and cognitive levels, this requires a positive learner in the system to show the students’ hidden capabilities as well as developing them.

Conventional teaching strategies are no longer suitable for modern-day living style, that is why many newer educational theories have arisen to help acquiring a lot of mental, social and motor skills.

Nowadays, the task of the modern teacher is to give their students the chance to acquire the knowledge by themselves, to let them actively join all educational activities and to initiate the passion for them to do this, to enable them to get used to independence in thinking, working and self-reliance

The main purpose of this research is to highlight the progress of students’ levels due to using the Peer Educational Strategy, which is used now in teaching “Book Design” for the 1st year students.

This strategy is not only positively affecting the students’ level in this specific curriculum, but it also made changes in their personality and behavior. Students have developed better ways in discussions and critics, they became able to express their opinions properly. All this helps in shaping the student’s personality, which is one of the major objectives for any university.

Finally, this research shows the existent development in students’ level under the Peer Educational Strategy as well as their opinions in it, its suitability with the nature of the curriculum and whether if there are better strategies that can be used.
