Aesthetic values in the studio ceramics of Garagus as a model for Small Projects development

Abstract

The experiment of the ceramics of Garagus is important and effective in the studio, and a successful model for microenterprises, which we observe through its products the aesthetic ​​ceramic values and its relationship with the Coptic, Islamic and folk art on one hand and with contemporary studio ceramics with its unconventional ideas on another hand. we find that the sgrafitto technique on the white slip is one of the most important techniques that are related to the Islamic art, and despite of its simplicity it holds within it many of the aesthetic values ​​associated with the vitality of the design and the innate performance and it is one of the important features of studio and handmade ceramics, products are carrying topics related either to heritage or the old habits and folk rituals or mouthpiece environment and mixing with the aesthetics of Coptic, Islamic art as they are intertwined elements accumulate to output the artwork or ceramic piece which is carrying an expressive fingerprint of heritage in renewable image.
The craft still falls under the folk arts or cultural industries, whose primary source is the heritage, the life of society and its traditions, in ways that may seem primitive and unaffected by modern technology that has dominated industrial ceramics, but these products carry spiritual feelings that show the truth of honest art linked to the character of the craftsman and the environment in which he was raised.
Coptic art is characterized by several characteristics, perhaps the most important of which is that it is spontaneous art. It arose in difficult circumstances that witnessed the oppression of Copts by the Romans. It is also a rural art that arose in an atmosphere of persecution, and the drawings reflected ordinary people and their pets that existed in every home. In terms of technology or simple design rules with an artistic sense used in producing ceramic works for painted subjects, plant, animal, people, they are inspired by ancient Islamic artistic rules and their expressive themes, what distinguishes primitive and popular ceramics is its connection to the inherited rituals, traditions and customs that appear absent in fact that these works Simple artistry is characterized by high artistic values ​​as these works represent the customs and traditions of the society in which he grew up and show spontaneous, innate facts in the formation, the compatibility between the choice of colors and the shape that suits them.
