Abstract

Reaching sustainable urban communities has become a global goal that all countries strive to achieve as they are healthy societies and have a positive impact on their inhabitants, and in light of this, a set of goals that sustainable development seeks to achieve has been recently defined, and given the many benefits of improving the quality of life in urban communities, and cities are also subject to urban design Sustainable urban design for a number of issues (urban, environmental, economic and social) according to a sustainable future vision, as sustainable urban design is one of the most important modern design methods and methods that represent a reference theory to achieve urban balance and evoke environmental and economic challenges, reduce operation and maintenance costs, and provide a safe urban environment. Sustainability, which in turn represents a global requirement necessary to reach a healthy, social, urban and environmentally sound environment suitable for all housing categories in the community, and the research dealt with the concept of sustainability and the basic principles of sustainable development and the features of a sustainable society, taking into account the concept of sustainable urban communities and their dimensions, and addressing the basic principles and standards of sustainable urban planning M with different elements in terms of choosing the urban fabric, traffic networks, urban spaces, environmental principles, using new and renewable energy resources, using modern water-saving systems and technologies, maintaining infrastructure, benefiting from wastewater and rainwater treatment and recycling materials, using environmentally friendly materials, with waste separation in a way. Environmental protection for the possibility of waste disposal and recycling, designing green spaces, using environmentally friendly plants and local fruitful trees with low consumption of water to achieve the environmental quality of urban spaces (green spaces), then studying the sustainability of green urban communities closed globally in accordance with the proposed principles with an introduction to the analysis of the urban, economic and social dimensions Then, a global case study of an urban community winning environmental awards and evaluated by the accreditation and evaluation organizations for sustainability in the city of Calgary in Canada, the axes of sustainable planning were applied to achieve urban sustainability, equality and social justice, meet human needs and achieve self-sufficiency to be safe and able to Resilience and achieving sustainable future societies
