Abstract

‏Many studies have shown that the use of the internet and the availability and ease of downloading of others' works has sparked the emergence of many phenomena related to academic integrity. One of the most critical issues is the concept of plagiarism, which is coping other work or the use of work without proper citation. While some may argue that the disadvantages presented by the spread of internet use outweigh the advantages, an often-disregarded argument is the increased accountability for students' repetition of ideas from their previous designs. Unacceptable repetition / duplication or in other words, self-plagiarism, is the presentation of work as new despite its recurrence in previous works. There is a number of studies that handle cases of unacceptable repetition/ self-plagiarism within the realm of academic texts, with a consensus that it is unacceptable behaviour. However, there seems to be a lack of studies that handle the concept of unacceptable repetition / self-plagiarism in the field of interior design, which requires the originality of ideas. This study is a part of a master’s dissertation and aims to use personal interviews to identify the perception of the academic of unacceptable repetition of students' design work.
‏The study relies on the analytical approach through analysing the stages of the design process and identifying the acceptable / unacceptable aspects of its repetition and its impact on the final output. It is expected that the results of this study will benefit academics by following up on students and making them aware of the points that need self-development and uncovering ambiguities about self-impersonation in the field of interior design. To create authentic designs that ensure excellence under the strong competition between creative designers and a conscious society
