Abstract: The concept of visual literacy is related to many fields such as education, art, philosophy...etc. It is defined as how people see things, understand them, and interpret what they have learned. The concept of visual literacy includes fundamental areas: visual thinking, design learning and visual communication, through which a set of knowledge, skills, and basic capabilities of visual literacy which the industrial design students must be familiar with and work on its development because of its direct impact on raising and developing their innovative capabilities related to solving problems, presenting design ideas, creating prototypes, media, and various design presentation methods. Visual literacy in visual communication design refers to the practices and strategies that enable industrial design students to identify, understand, analyze, and evaluate elements of visual communication, and using visual literacy approaches to apply creative techniques that are essential for learning in the field of visual communication design. Visual literacy can be developed by teaching them the skills of analyzing and solving design problems and creating visual images, prototypes and visual media within a space that allows the integration of ideas, concepts, and methodologies. Therefore, the main objective of the research is to develop the innovative capabilities of industrial design students considering digital technical developments in the field of information technology through a research methodology to design a program that includes the visual literacy approaches to develop the innovative capabilities and to identify creative techniques and its application in one of the specialization courses for Product presentation design course. Research problem: The problem of the research lies in the need to raise the visual competence of the innovative capabilities of industrial design students to keep pace with today’s rich visual world, which is based on creating meaning and knowledge through images and visual media by identifying approach to visual literacy and visual representation tools that help them develop their innovative capabilities and develop their necessary skills towards research. On the interpretation, evaluation, use and production of visual materials in an academic context. Research Objective: Determining the approach to the visual literacy that help develop the innovative capabilities of industrial design students. Research hypothesis Determining the approach to visual literacy and integrating them into educational curricula contributes to developing the innovative capabilities of industrial design students.
