Abstract

Abstract
The research discusses reaching to considerations and factors for the development and design of lighting units in accordance with customers’ needs, and enables the achievement of an organized and practical methodology for the management of development research, through:
1. Studying the needs and desires of a sample of the target group.
2. Analyzing of the study to reach their priorities when purchasing lighting units.
3. Analyzing of a group of lighting units in the market.
4. Studying the gap between it and the sample’s desires and purchasing capabilities.
The research has been studied some alternatives of metallic raw materials, glass alternatives and some low-cost crystal, that perform the same design goals, whether they are aesthetic or functional, and the use of electrical components that give sufficient lighting for the place, and in an energy-saving manner that works to protect the environment, and work to support the state’s direction in development sustainable and rationalizing electrical energy consumption. With the possibility of achieving quantitative production of the targeted lighting units to reduce the cost of production, and thus reduce the price of the product in proportion to the capabilities of the largest segment of consumers.
The research found a methodology for designing and developing new lighting units to achieve consumer satisfaction and project success, through considerations, the most important of which was access to some alternatives with less expensive materials in the production and manufacture of lighting units at reasonable prices that meet the desires of consumers and achieve production efficiency.
The problem:
The spread of imported low-quality lighting units at prices that compete with the Egyptian products, and the lack of various options from the national product that meets the desires of the largest segments of Egyptian consumers in terms of aesthetic specifications and distinctive quality at an appropriate price.
The Research Aim:
Achieving considerations for the development and design of lighting units with aesthetic and functional specifications that meet the desires of consumers, at an appropriate price.
The Importance:
Contributing to raise the competitive capabilities of local lighting units by achieving consumers' desires while achieving quality and appropriate price factors.
Key words:
Lighting units - design and development - add value - design methodology.
