Designing more sustainable packaging for textile clothing packaging

Abstract

Packaging is one of the most important priorities of the market, which occupies the forefront at the present. Its functions are no longer limited to protecting the product, but rather have gone beyond that and affected the buying habits and decisions of the consumer. However, the amount of waste resulting from packaging materials is steadily increasing posing a constant threat to environmental sustainability. Hence, sustainable packaging has become a critical requirement for institutions to make their efforts to achieve change that is consistent with preserving the environment.
The research problem is: to find design solutions that achieve sustainability in packaging without harming the other functions of the packaging, which helps to reduce the use of raw materials and thus reduce the cost.
The research aims: to shed light on the recent trends in sustainable packaging that carry new, unconventional ideas and try to apply them in the field of packaging to achieve sustainability and reduce the volume of waste. This would enhance the mental image of institutions and consolidate their environmental responsibility. In addition, it contributes to changing consumer behaviors, habits and influences his decisions to buy eco-friendly products.
The study followed the descriptive and analytical approach. A survey was conducted to identify the most important views on the sustainable packaging of clothing, And using the survey results to improve some samples of packaging that were selected in the Egyptian market in terms of several factors such as the structural and graphic form, the material used and the extent of their environmental compatibility, as well as their suitability for the product and ease of transportation and handling to improve sustainability.
