Abstract

The locations, forms, and contents of the inscriptions executed in the various artistic formations on the remaining civil buildings in the city of Taif varied. It is a variety of religious, propaganda, historical and other writings.
The people of Hijaz, including the residents of Taif, especially in the Ottoman era, used to carve some Qur’anic verses and propaganda and religious phrases on the facades of their homes and facilities, in honor of them and believing in their importance in warding off envy and opening some other inscriptions, and so on.
In this study, the researcher will follow the descriptive approach based on describing the remaining inscriptions in the urban buildings of Taif, in addition to the analytical method, which includes analyzing the contents of these inscriptions, comparing them with each other and with their counterparts in the various buildings of the Hijaz cities, especially the cities of Makkah and Jeddah.
Research problem:
1- Uncovering the nature of the inscriptions in the remaining civil buildings in the city of Taif.
Research goal:
- Standing on the inscriptions that were implemented on the various civil buildings in the city of Taif.
- Identifying the types of fonts used in the implementation of the inscriptions in Ammar Al-Taif Al-Madaniah.
Determining the industrial and technical methods used in the inscriptions in Taif's civil buildings.
Inscriptions are the greatest common denominator on Islamic artwork, whether architectural, plastic or applied. Calligraphy has entered as an important decorative element in the various Islamic arts products because of its clear decorative feature. Calligraphy was often the most important element in the decoration Islamic artistic production, and sometimes it was the only decorative element in it, and Arabs view calligraphy as an art in its own right as well as its contribution with other arts in the formation of wonderful artistic paintings that enrich the various masterpieces.
