Abstract

The issue of environmental sustainability is one of the most important issues in our time, which in turn is reflected in modern design thought. The guidance and counseling system is one of the most important standards for security and safety inside public buildings and open sites, in addition to being a visual communication information system and a vital and civilized indicator related to human life, daily activities and uses of its environmental surroundings. It plays an important functional role as part of the interior design of the building. Its main objective is to enable the interior space of the building to meet the needs of users. The complex design process includes many informational and graphic elements, design and ergonomic foundations. The problem of the research is that the environmental standard did not constitute an effective side of the design thought of guidance and counseling systems, and the research aims to consolidate the principles of ecological design and the concept of sustainability in the design of guidance and counseling systems. To achieve this goal, the research was divided into three axes. The first axis: criteria for designing guidance and counseling systems, the second axis, considerations of sustainable ecological design for the design of guidance and counseling systems. The third axis is an applied study on some archaeological sites and public buildings inside Cairo. The research found the need for integration between the ecological approach, the principles of sustainability and the foundations of graphic design in the design of guidance and counseling systems to keep pace with modern design thinking, achieve quality of life and reduce negative effects on the environment.
