Abstract

The relationship between civilizations is an important and complex issue in which many factors overlap namely : religious, economic, political and cultural ... etc. In spite of the intellectual contributions related to this subject at the Arab and Western levels, it still raises many serious discussions among the intellectual elites.
The theory of dialogue of civilizations is considered the most prominent intellectual contributions that attempted to define the nature of the relationship between the Western and Arab Islamic parties.
Contribution of : Roger Garaudy and Muhammad Khatami, as well as other thinkers, who have tried to set down new theoretical foundations that allow overcoming obstacles to human rapprochement in its various manifestations : cultural, social, political, economic ... etc., so that each party preserves the foundations of its civilization that are the basis of its existence.
In order to understand these positions and trends in depth, we have tried through this article to answer the following problem : has dialogue become a necessity imposed by global variables that have accompanied the phenomenon of globalization in its positive and negative dimensions to achieve peaceful coexistence between societies ? Do advocates of dialogue have a clear vision of what dialogue is and what its content is ?

After our reading and analysis of the positions of some Arab thinkers towards the problem of civilizational dialogue, we were able to answer the problem at hand. Among the important results reached and agreed upon by most researchers, is that dialogue is important in building bridges of love and peaceful coexistence. Dialogue is an authentic Islamic approach stated in the Qur’an. The Holy Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and the Rightly Guided Caliphs after him applied it. Accordingly, the origin in our Arab-Islamic culture is dialogue with the other, a human culture that begins with the human being and ends with him, accepting pluralism that starts from difference and ends with tolerance and understanding with the other, and accordingly, it is necessary to expand the circle of discussion and dialogue between researchers of civilized affairs in order to develop the foundations and principles that are based, on the one hand, on the one hand. In addition to scientific knowledge and in terms of serving the future of humanity
