Abstract

light is considered the main source for energy, it is one of the greatest divine blessings as it is connected to the blessing of sight, as life on earth can’t exist without light. Scott Robert Gillam mentioned that the contrast in the visible field is the foundation for the optical realization of things located within the field of our sights, once we realize the form of the shape, this means that there must have been differences in the visible field, wherever there are differences there must be some kind of contrast and that is the basis for optical realization for the various forms.
As they fall in our visible fields they awaken our optic senses and push them to pay attention to the coming light waves from the reflective surfaces with all their variable kinds. Immediately our sensual organs and nervous system and the brain respond eventually to such stimuli.
Inside the work there is an aesthetic role that interacts with the inputs of architectural and artistic composition, which has pushed the artist to discover potentials and aesthetics of light and its exquisite results in addition to artistic and plastic (formative) treatment for elements of shadow and light, which has turned the idea of the work and its content into a bridge for communication between the artist and the recipient.
From here the problem of the research appeared: which is not benefiting from the shadowy voids in most of the distinguished architectural facilities.
The research aims:
1- To reveal the significance of the elements of shadow and light in some architectural and artistic works.
2- Rooting the sense of architectural space and environmental void and the unit of composition for such elements.
