Abstract

The rigidity of the classical criticism model followed in reading the works of Neoclassicism has caused the transformation of the works of classical criticism into a set of readings with fixed judgments, even with the difference in the work and artist, and also the difference of the critic, which indicates the need to use contemporary critical doctrines in reading the works of Neoclassicism. Criticism criteria in which the individual distinction of the artwork from the aesthetic point of vision and looking for new keys to read the classic work away from the standard criteria, and perhaps genetic criticism is one of the latest critical approaches that seek to read new works of art in the light of studying the stages of the work before its completion. Genetic criticism - in contrast to the classical approach to criticism - is not concerned with choosing the methodological bases most appropriate to analyze a work in the light of its artistic doctrine, but rather it is concerned with reviving what existed before the work was completed by monitoring changes in the stages of formation of the work and the steps of its completion and addressing the symmetry of the forms and what they indicate. It has historical, social or aesthetic connotations to search for new levels of meaning within the artwork. Although most of the studies in which genetic criticism has been applied were literary studies, its application in the field of visual arts will be one of the original studies that expose the graphic work to unusual mechanisms in the field of fine criticism, and here is the research question:

How can the works of Neoclassicism be read with an updated critical view in light of the mechanisms of genetic criticism?

Therefore, the research assumed that the genetic criticism has mechanisms through which the works of the Neoclassicism can be read with an updated critical vision.

The research aims to arrive at an updated critical view of the works of the art of Neoclassicism in the light of the mechanisms of genetic criticism.
