Post-Occupancy Evaluation & its role in developing Architectural programming in university buildings Indicative Case Study on Educational buildings in Beni-Suef University campus

Abstract

Universities is not only a place to teach science or conduct research projects, but it is also a place where its affiliates, whether they are students, professors, workers, making their social interactions within an urban and architectural environment whose quality affects the creation of a positive atmosphere of general satisfaction for its occupants that makes them more vibrant, active and effective, by observation design of educational buildings at Beni Suef University did not receive sufficient attention quality and method of distribution, which may negatively affect the lack of communication and social interaction between occupants, so this research came to evaluate Educational buildings after their occupancy through methodology based first on a theoretical framework in which the relevant concepts such as architectural programming were presented, as foundation of the applied framework that aimed to make executive procedures to test the effectiveness of these theoretical rules on the ground, and evaluate their actual uses In light of occupants responsibilities by various human types, through two main axes, first 30 Questionnaire were distributed throuhg random occupants samples (15 males &15 females), interviews to survey their opinions, in order to test the achievement of functional, behavioral and technical levels about architectural Performance Approach, then ethnological study including documenting and analyzing all data obtained from questionnaires and interviews came to discover aspects of For shortcomings and excellence of each building coming up the statistical results To find out the causes of the initial ideas, concepts included in the architectural program through an interview with the architectural designer of each building, in order to explore new factors, solutions of the existing problems for developmenting and improvement the performance of the existing conditions, finally a sets of recommendations including some proposed procedures and modifications Required to reach the highest possible operational efficiency, in addition of providing a preliminary formulation to avoid future errors resulting from the conflict between what is designed on the ground, and on other hand requirements of users
