The Role of the Photographic Image in the Visual Expression of Folk Proverbs

Abstract

Folk proverbs are part of the folklore heritage and express different values of the Egyptians. Many young people are not aware of their importance to diverse situations.

By using the descriptive-analytical and experimental approaches, the results offered insights into the importance of the photographic image in documenting proverbs visually by translating the meaning based on an accurate content study; the effective positive and cognitive impact of the technical and artistic deployment of the photographic image on the visual expression of the proverb; and the necessity of linking the new generation to the Egyptian identity and helping them realize the importance of searching for heritage and expressing it visually by employing modern technology.



Research question

Folk proverbs are a heritage, yet they have no visual representation. This raises the question of emphasizing the role that the photographic image can play artistically and technically to reach a model that achieves visual translation of the verbal content of the folk proverb.



Research aims:

The objectives of this research are:

1- Linking the art of photography to the folklore heritage by transforming the written folk proverb into a documentary photograph

2- Instilling the spirit of belongingness in the youths by researching and scrutinizing our heritage.

3- Encouraging those in charge of documenting the written heritage to cooperate with specialists in the photographic field to produce photographic documentation of folk proverbs.
