Contemporary jewelry design inspired by the metalwork motifs in the Grand Mosque in Mecca

Abstract

Abstract: This study aimed to identify the aesthetic values in the decorations of the Haram and to know the possibility of analyzing them phenomenologically to design contemporary ornaments and jewelry with an Islamic identity inspired by the decorations of metal works in the Great Mosque of Mecca. The researcher used the phenomenological method, through which the aesthetics of the metal-worked decorative units at the doors and entrances of the Great Mosque of Mecca were analyzed. The study (an opinion poll form) on a random sample of the people of the country, residents, pilgrims and visitors to the Great Mosque of Mecca, and a response was reached (180) opinion polls. The results of the study proved the possibility of designing endless ornaments and jewelry inspired by the decorations of the Great Mosque of Mecca, on the other hand. Contributed to the increase of distinctive design ideas for the formulation of ornaments and jewelry bearing the Islamic identity, and the results demonstrated that the designs achieved a high degree of design, aesthetic and functional values, which contributes significantly to their global spread. The use of 3D graphic programs to draw the design also helped the ability to preview the design in a way that simulates reality and helped reduce the time and effort spent in designing and implementing jewelry. The study recommended applying more analytical studies of the decorations inspired by the Great Mosque of Mecca and benefiting from them in the design of products in general and the design of ornaments and jewelry in particular. As it provides job and investment opportunities for the country and society and contributes to spreading the Islamic identity of Makkah Al-Mukarramah.
