Ancient Egyptian Astronomical murals in the tombs of the new kingdom

Abstract

The new kingdom began when king Ahmose I found the dynasty 18 at 1540 B.C. Which was beginning of the revival of the ancient Egyptian heritage, And a new style tomb’s designing, When it separated from the funerary temples, And was dug in the rock of western bank in valley of the kings. This tombs near Luxor in addition the tombs of nobles, Preserved many astronomical diagrams, to describe the journey of the celestial bodies cycles, and time keeping through using the stars movement.

It’s known that Ancient Egyptian’s arts have sacred traditions, Reflect Cosmic concepts, Because that, Changing this traditions was meaning destroying the cosmic order. So it was a shocked to the priests at the time of Akhenaten, When he made changes in the religion and so the arts, Because he made reverence only to the sun god Aten, The only element that effects everything, The main source of the Nile, And forces necessary for life. In hence it was the main art figure at that time.

After Akhenaten’s time, The Ramesside’s period starts its restoration of the traditional arts, That was sacred through all the ancient Egyptian time, And reflect the role of the sacred deities, That were considered as a symbols of an astronomical phenomena. So this Ancient Egyptian’s beliefs based on the reverence of cosmic manifestations formed the style of arts, And regarding the murals of the new kingdom’s tombs, There are many models of astronomy diagrams starting with those on the ceiling of Senenmut’s tmob.
