Abstract

Abstract:

Teaching pedagogy is set according to the nature and practicing of the course as well as its learning targets. Design of teaching method as a complicated creative process, supported by several thinking characteristics, enhanced through practicing, thinking and examples and, in the same time, meets students' needs to achieve desired learning results. The design of teaching method should aim to help the teacher and to develop the teacher's abilities in a more effective form, (Siemens, G., 2005).

This paper focuses on the design of a teaching method of the optional course of "Color and Light in Interior Space" trying to find the most suitable solution that meets several criteria within certain limitations and solve teaching and learning problems through a diversity of experimental trends, emphasizing on "theory" and "experimentation" alternating with design thinking. Incentives in theoretical sciences contribute to adopt design principles, practice reasoning and interpretations to achieve students' learning. The design of teaching method of the course aims to the utilization of effective and active learning targets. The teacher has the key role in organizing, designing and using creative teaching aids to develop the course and achieve its targets as well as taking the student step by step to reach the target of deep learning through meditation (deep thinking) and experimentation.

Students need to learn in a nontraditional way and to experiment with whatever they learn so they can absorb the different aspects and think in a deeper way rather than listening or reading only, this is what we call "deep learning". This leads to the transfer of theories into concrete ideas and make students effectively come up with primary models through design thinking and Kolb's experiential theory.

The model was applied to students of architecture department in an Academy in Cairo – Egypt. 70 students participated in the study in two different classes in autumn and spring 2021/2022, results were monitored through a questionnaire.
