Abstract

The history of the establishment of environmental graphic design in general goes back to the drawings that primitive man left on the walls of caves, and the drawings on the walls of archaeological expanses. This is what constitutes the main part of the visual identity of the environment or the place surrounding man. Some may confuse the use of the word "environmental" in this term to denote matters of preserving the environment, climate and nature. But in this term in particular it is used to denote the design of the immediate space surrounding individuals, as this term includes the creation of environments that are compatible with human needs, it formulates an interactive relationship between places and individuals, and one of the most common examples is the design of the built environment with decorative drawings and road marking systems, and it also includes Banners, murals and public installations That is, it is a term that refers to adding graphic elements to the space surrounding individuals to create a space that achieves the aesthetic and functional dimension of graphic design, and within the framework of the Egyptian state's recent interest in creating a distinctive visual identity for some Egyptian cities of strategic importance such as the cities of Sharm El-Sheikh, Luxor and Aswan, and the researcher found that it is It is necessary to exploit the environmental graphic design to create a distinctive visual identity for the Egyptian cities in general and be derived from the geographic nature of the city and the social and cultural characteristics of its residents, so that this environmental graphic design has an aesthetic effect that shows the distinctive character of each city and a functional impact by trying to reach an interactive relationship between people. And its surrounding environment by using innovative guidance and guidance systems that are appropriate to the identity of each city.
