Sustainable environmental design of textiles directed to the development of eco-tourism for resorts in the Farasan Islands Nature Reserve in line with the Kingdom’s visionof Saudi Arabia 2030

Abstract

. Nowadays, in Saudi Arabia, the tourism sector witnesses a significant interest, due to its importance in diversifying the national base of economy, and providing job opportunities more than any other sector. Eco- tourism is one of the fastest developing types of tourism. It aims at benefiting from the tourism and heritage capabilities, preserving the environment for the longest possible time, preserving the biological diversity, achieving the economic development and serving the society.

the Farasan Islands Nature Reserve is considered the first Saudi reserve to join the Human and Biosphere Program due to its distinction with its environmental diversity and competitive merits is one of those reserves appropriate to represent the sustainable eco-tourism.

Thus, the problem of the research is represented in the urgent need to design textiles and textiles for the development of eco-tourism, in addition. the need of Saudi Farasan Islands Reserve to the factor of the tourism attraction (tourism industry), in spite of the environmental diversity and the unique wildlife of the reserve, in addition to its natural and cultural heritage, which made it one of the most prominent destinations all over the kingdom. Also, it is the first Saudi reserve to join the UNESCO Biosphere Program.

The research aims at revealing the role of the textile designer in achieving the sustainable development and the advancement of the natural reserves in general and Farasan Islands Reserve in particular, in order to achieve the objectives of the research, this was applied in the graduation project course for students of the Department of Applied Arts - Textile Track - College of Design and Architecture - Jazan University - Saudi Arabia.

Where the results were shown through the statistical analysis of a questionnaire survey of environmental designs implemented with environmentally friendly technologies and raw materials and presented them to arbitrators specialized in the field of textile industries.

the role of the textile designer in achieving creative ideas for the furnishing fabrics of the tourist resorts in Farasan Islands, and its impact on the development of eco- tourism, either on the local or the global level, in accordance with the Kingdom's Vision 2030, as well as the Man and the Biosphere Program.
