Embroidery Hoop Development for People with Disabilities

Abstract

Within the framework of the state’s interest in people with disabilities, many initiatives were launched, including (Egypt is more beautiful with you) to support and empower people with disabilities to integrate into society and benefit from their abilities and talents. Several training and rehabilitation programs have been developed by specialists in various fields to help them use all their capabilities they have and benefit from them as much as possible. Art has always been considered the best way of feelings expression among human beings, so it helps release the feelings of the disabled towards himself and others. Art is also seen as a basic educational means in building an integrated personality through the practice and production of professional artworks that can represent a source of income for people with disabilities. The art of embroidery is one of the oldest delicate handcrafts known to man in the field of clothing industry, which is the art of decorating with stitches on cloth using threads, but it turns out that there is a great difficulty faced by those who have a disability with their upper limbs in grasping the embroidery frame (hoop), so it is necessary to develop special embroidery tools to suit people with disabilities, each according to his own form of disability.

Research Problem:

It is difficult for people with upper limb disabilities to use the traditional embroidery hoop available in the market because of poor control of their upper limbs.

Research Aims:

Helping people with upper limbs disabilities to express their creativity and skillful abilities by developing the manual embroidery hoop that suits their needs to produce high quality embroidery.

Research Methodology:

The research follows the descriptive and experimental approach.

Research limits:

This study was conducted on people with disabilities (those with chronic upper extremity disability), and the proposed hand embroidery hoop, which was provided with handles was used.
