Installation art is one of the streams of contemporary interactive visual art, in which a part of the architectural space is transformed into a three-dimensional artwork that expresses the designer’s thought according to a synthetic process capable of establishing a relationship between the design and its surrounding environment. This art is characterized by the diversity of materials used in its design as well as its ability To enrich the senses of the recipient, which represents a distinctive artistic, architectural, design relationship that leads to a positive change for both the architectural space and the recipient.

And since the progress of industrial establishments depends on their ability to develop their products in terms of design methods and manufacturing methods, and considering lighting units as industrial products with a special design nature that can interact with both: the senses of the user and the architectural space, so the research will deal with the possibilities of benefiting from the philosophy of installation art as a visual art. Interactive to design modern lighting units that are compatible with the surrounding architectural space ecosystem.

Research problem:

The research problem is concentrated in that although installation art is widely used globally in contemporary design, it has not been applied clearly with regard to industrial designs, including lighting units, especially at the local level.

In addition to the lack of academic studies related to installation art and its impact on the development of the global design movement and the possibilities of its application in the scope of industrial design.

Research goal:

The research aims to: Study the concept, history and philosophy of installation art and its impact on contemporary arts and how this can lead to the development of a modern method for designing lighting units for different architectural spaces.

The importance of research: Enriching Arab academic studies with regard to the philosophy of the art of installation art and its role in the contemporary design movement and its relationship to applied arts in particular. In addition to enhancing the aesthetic and visual value and enriching the Egyptian market with advanced products in the field of lighting units.
