Sources of Inspiration for Saudi Designers and their Relationship to the Concept of Authenticity

Abstract

Introduction

Every artist or designer has a responsibility to reflect their heritage and capture its essence in their work in order to boost their society's civilizational progression and strengthen their sense of cultural identity. Although the authenticity of this society must be portrayed, it may appear to be veiled beneath the cultural overlap as western typical manifestations appear in a number of visual identities and visual designs, alienated in an authentic Arab environment. Therefore, there is a need to reflect our culture by visual communication and attempt to find the influential sources in the designer's work and their relationship to the concept of authenticity. In addition, the designers should be aware of their effectiveness and cultural impact that extends to the present and the future.

Research problem:

The main question of this research: What is the relationship between the inspirational sources that are preferred by Saudi designer and the concept of authenticity? The question is divided into the following sub-questions:

-What are the preferred sources of inspiration by Saudi designers?

- What is the concept of authenticity that Saudi designers believe in?

- What is the relationship between the preferred inspirational sources by Saudi designer and the concept of authenticity throughout the practices in creative work?

Research importance:

• Exploring the various sources preferred by designers and related to the authentic identity of the Saudi society and benefiting from the research results as a reference for the inspiring sources for Saudi designers.

• Presenting a study of one of the causes of poor creative level of the designer by analyzing the relationship between authenticity and inspiration that is important aspect of creative thinking.

• Enrichment of studies in the field of design and visual communication and its practices in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in particular, where there is little of related studies.

Research aims:

The research aims to reveal the inspiring sources for Saudi designers and their relationship to the concept of authenticity. From this main goal, a set of goals emerges, summarized as follows:

1- Identify the preferred sources of inspiration by Saudi designers.

2- Revealing the concept of authenticity that Saudi designers believe.

3- Analyzing the relationship between the sources of inspiration preferred by Saudi designers and their concept of ؤ through their practices in creative work.
