Abstract

Given the different methodologies in modern and postmodern art criticism, there is probably no field of study that is universally applicable to media theory such as semiotics, the study of visual signaling systems. Often confused with symbolism itself, semiotics are the study of how certain symbols acquire their meaning, how they come to represent information, and how the relationship between meaning and image affects the reception of that information.

The interest in the visual arts has increased in recent years as a result of the domination of the image on the entire world of contemporary life, with its superior ability to influence beyond what the word can have. And because the picture depends on visual perception, unlike the word, which needs to acquire the skill of reading to understand its meaning, it is characterized by the ability to address a wide range of people that many other non-visual arts are unable to reach.

Since man instinctively seeks to search for the meanings of things, trying to unravel the ambiguity of everything around him and everything that is difficult to understand, and it can be said that this quest is linked to the realization of the underlying truth even if the ways of expression varied.

The research deals with first: the theoretical framework through the concepts of the image, semiotics and the sign, and the citation of some pictorial works. Its components, , That is why "Regis Dupree" says, that the image is a sign that represents the property of being open to interpretation, as it opens up to all eyes that look at it and at it, as it gives us the ability to talk about it and provide multiple and different interpretations about it. Second: The practical framework for research and the work presented by the researcher is divided It is divided into four groups, each of which presents a pictorial expression of the concept of semiotics and its impact on the interpretation of the depicted form through the use of several symbols and signs and changing its meaning from the general interpretation to the specific interpretation of its artistic vision in a unique expressive manner.
