Abstract

Tapestry is one of the sectors that have accompanied mankind since it grew up on the surface of the earth and represented a field of research through the ages, and has developed in its industry, since its use of textiles, it did not want to be limited to the functional aspect, but it worked to be added to its basic function an artistic impact that carries expressive dimensions of identity and citizenship, including in its space drawings, shapes and decorations that reflect an aspect of popular culture. The textile art has undergone transformations and creations that were the result of the artist's intelligent dialogue with the cultural heritage. Today, we stand in front of textiles that faithfully documented an important aspect of human history through different textile techniques and various materials, and multiple topics, all of which try to narrate the life of ancestors and an important historical stage of human life, and the artist's dialogue with the "textile" heritage ranged between simulation and (suggestions), according to his artistic style and self-vision...The tapestry, in this presence, becomes an artistic technique "documentation" not only an artistic impact and a handicraft, limited to the functional aspect and benefit, but has become through the dialogue of the artist one of the basic techniques to carry artistic messages and plastic goals, which requires the need to study and research its content and its relationship to history and work to link it with the past and the present and exploit all its details and parts and the connotations and historical discourse such as symbols, signs or folkloric scenes. This study examines the "textile" content and its relationship to the environment in which it originated and how to benefit from its components as it represents a historical aspect through an analytical reading of craft models and a subjective artistic experience, through which we monitor the relationship of authenticity with modernity to express identity and citizenship, with a discourse that reflects the "documentary" aspect and aesthetic and plastic values in the tapestry.
