Abstract

Textile education focuses on developing textile printing technology and creating innovative and attractive textile products for various applications. At present, a higher demand is put on the use of natural dyeing and printing due to increased awareness of the environmental and health hazards associated with the synthesis and use of synthetic dyes. Natural dyes are non-carcinogenic, produce soothing and exclusive color to the textiles, and have better biodegradability and higher compatibility with the environment. This research was conducted using onion outer skins as a waste potential source of natural plant dyes. Extraction of dye was carried out in the aqueous boiling method and pre mordanting technique was applied to different materials by using different mordants, namely alum and ferrous sulfate. Eco printing (Botanical Colors) technique was followed by the direct use of various plant, vegetable, fruit parts, and biowastes with cotton, cotton/polyester blend fabrics, and polyester. silk and nylon. satisfactory patterns, textures, and color shades were obtained, creating successful patterns is resultant of technical knowledge, experience, practice, and accurate recipes. Interesting surface effects can be imparted through the manipulation of process parameters. Even, a change of only one parameter causes significant variation and entirely different unique designs. The aim of this method is to achieve a more sophisticated visual effect by exploring innovative techniques to design the surface decoration and to create a unique contextual basis for textile printing. The examination of this study case indicated that the incorporation of different textile printing and dyeing processes could therefore facilitate a novel creative approach to textile printing. Furthermore, the author aims to demonstrate how the method of experimentation with innovative techniques and traditional textile printing methods enables undergraduate textile printing designers to expand their individual creative skills and gain a tangible experience in textile print design. The study concluded that 19 pieces were dyed and printed in environmentally friendly and safe ways, using the eco-printing technique, which varied between shawls and women's bags.
