Abstract

Accessories for cloth production are considered among the most influential elements on functional performance for the final product quality. It is a must to make sure how convenient such production accessories with types of used materials and the best way for installation and sewing, which are of the most significant factors that affect functionality and quality of the product from aesthetical and functional aspects.

This research paper focuses on study of Elastic bands which are used to fit a wide range of clothing sizes to make it tighter while wearing, they are considered as fixators for the product with a certain power of fixation, which allows more Elasticity for cloth while being putting on or taking off to give a sense of formability with the body movement. It was noticed that some types of Elastic bands lose their Elasticity with time which decreases their shelf life and expected performance of the product. Percentage of Elasticity was measured in a sample of Elastic bands (woven or knitted) before and after sewing or installing with one face knitwear fabric (single jersey 100% cotton).

Such samples represent most of the width range of Elastic bands used in cloth from 0.5- 5 cm., different means of sewing and installation were used that resemble methods for readymade cloth manufacture (exposed seam- turned seam- enclosed seam). It was found that knitwear Elastic bands are more flexible, Elastic and of less weight than woven Elastic bands, the more the width of the band, the less its Elasticity and flexibility. Also exposed seam Elastic bands are more influenced by repeated washing as their Elasticity decrease and their length increase by 20% after 12 times of washing, in comparison to turned seam bands that are being affected with less percentage only 2%, while enclosed seam bands fall between the other 2 types.
