Abstract

The King Salman Charter for Architecture and Urbanism is a pioneering initiative to promote innovation, creativity, and sustainability in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The charter aims to preserve cultural heritage while reflecting the kingdom's history. This new beginning will help support design values by forming an integrated thought with the reference values of urban excellence.



The issue that this research aims to address is how concealing identity is negatively impacting the urban character in Saudi Arabia. This is primarily attributed to the Western influence on architecture and design in the Kingdom, which does not align with its unique cultural, traditional, and climatic aspects. As a result, the research focuses on how King Salman's charter can help preserve Saudi Arabia's cultural and urban heritage while maintaining the country's identity.



The research importance to achieve a comprehensive philosophical and design framework that meets the basic values of the charter, including originality, sustainability, innovation, continuity, human-centricity, and sufficient living conditions. The ultimate goal is to create a sustainable urban character that is compatible with the Kingdom's unique climatic, environmental, cultural, and human conditions, while ensuring that the country's identity is preserved.



The aim of this research is to explore ways on how to implement the Charter's vision in an integrated manner that fits all these aspects together. The main objective is twofold: first, to seek to maintain harmony between traditional values and modern technology through creativity. Second, it aims for sustainability in design. This includes making sure that all designs are environmentally friendly as well as aesthetically pleasing. In addition, it hopes that by 2030, these efforts will be able to contribute to achieving the Kingdom's 2030 vision that focuses on economic growth and development in various sectors such as education, healthcare, and so on.



The research relied on an analytical and descriptive approach based on the study of architectural identity and its stages of development, leading to the impact of King Salman's charter on preserving it. An applied approach was also used by submitting a proposal to the College of Engineering and Information Technology in the female section in Onaizah as an example .



In conclusion, the King Salman charter is one of the most important initiatives launched recently in order to achieve long-term success both from an environmental and social point of view.
