Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a technology that enables machines or systems to perform tasks that typically require distinct human capabilities such as learning, thinking, or decision-making. Artificial intelligence can be applied to packaging design to enable students to achieve more sophisticated features, such as product specification, optimal use, or automation. With regard to packaging design education, packaging design education is an area aimed at preparing students to meet the challenges and opportunities of packaging design for various products, markets, and users. Packaging design instruction covers not only the technical and aesthetic aspects of packaging but also the social and environmental effects of packaging and consumption residues. Since packaging design is constantly evolving owing to the evolution of new technologies, trends, and needs, packaging teaching in packaging design needs to be adapted and innovative to keep pace with changes and prepare students to deal with the future. This paper will discuss some application processes for artificial intelligence in packaging design education using the analytical descriptive approach by analyzing emerging techniques, global packaging trends, and market needs. With some suggestions of available trends, methods, and tools that could strengthen the link between packaging design and sustainability education, function, interaction, personal characteristics, and creativity. The research has concluded with a series of findings, the most important of which is that artificial intelligence applications in packaging design education provide students with the ability to read the future directions of the market based on the use of modern techniques to analyze different market data and variables. This leads to the recommendation that the use of different artificial intelligence applications should be expanded in design education in its general form and packaging design in its own form.
