Abstract

Abstract

Modern art is considered a revolution against rigid forms, making the artist's self-expression the foundation of creativity. Through visual representations and creative compositions, the artist reflects his personal vision of things after analyzing them. This type of art is known as "visual art". The art of photography has not been far from the global artistic movement. Earlier, photographic works were rejected by traditional art exhibitions and seen as mere chemical-physical processes for recording reality, free from artistic creativity and personal vision.

This paper analyzes the works of the Italian photographer Franco Fontana, as they exemplify abstract photography, where he skillfully used his lens and colored film to produce pioneering abstract artistic images by stripping away what the eye perceives as a non-abstract reality.

It is crucial to highlight Fontana's works that laid the foundation for abstract photography and opened the door for creative expression in this form of art, as the technology did not stop at colored film and traditional cameras; rather digital technology dominated the field. Thus, this research categorizes and simplifies the foundations for producing abstract photography through controlling the digital camera and its capabilities to create imaginative images that reflect artistic visions.
