Abstract

with the continuous changes in human life and the conflict between heritage and between modernity, contemporaneity and advanced technologies, we must emulate the creative thought and principles of designs used by our ancestors and mix them into what suits this new life according to the changing human needs without demolishing the heritage design principles or considering it an obstacle in front of contemporary thought, and to elevate the cultural heritage design to a contemporary level.

authenticity and modernity are two concepts that should not be separated, and that the process of merging them opens new horizons for designers, away from subordination and imitation, and in an effort to bridge the gap between the two ideas, relying on everything new in technology.

Contemporary designs that rely on heritage or a classic identity in design are not a new idea, but can be traced back to ancient times. It can be said that there are architectural styles that rely on reviving ancient classical styles in an innovative and modern way, and developing them to meet the requirements of the present in a contemporary way. A large number have been produced. One of the wonderful architectural works that influenced many civilizations and cultures around the world.

Contrary to what some people expect, the schools and architectural styles and the interior design styles that called for the development and modernization of classicism actually began in France at the end of the eighteenth century and with the end of the Rococo period and the beginning of the neoclassical period during the reign of Louis XVI. It was followed by the “imperial style” school during the rule of Napoleon Bonaparte, and it developed against the backdrop of the cultural and artistic renaissance that was embodied in the period of the imperial rule. Then it entered the period of modernism after World War II, which called for a move away from classicism and attention to the teachings of functionalism and other schools that moved away from classicism. Until the emergence of the post-modernism school, which began in the sixties of the twentieth century, we will discuss its most important principles and branches.

In this research, I will analyze works dealing with modernizing and reviving classic & traditional styles with the aim of arriving at foundations that can be used as guidance in the design process to achieve integration between contemporary and classic design identity.
