Inspiration by heritage and preserving identity in the designs of artist Omar Al-Nagdi

Abstract

Abstract:

Arts in general and visual arts express particularly the human and the details of his reality, his dreams, his victories, and his affiliation. In addition to a complete cohesion with others and his integration with all details and symbols of the environment and life around him, which reflect identity, history, civilization, and heritage.

Here it stands out a need to go towards heritage in contemporary arts to confirm belonging and artistic identity. This is the need imposed by the openness to the world, and the strong integration between the different cultures of the world keeps increasing day by day,

Therefore, the research studies the design and its connection with the Egyptian identity in the works of the artist Omar El-Nagdi one of the pioneers of contemporary art, through his inspiration from the Egyptian heritage, whether this heritage is from Ancient Egyptian and Islamic art or folk Egyptian art.

The various methods and design elements that El-Nagdi followed in highlighting the Egyptian identity in the various subjects of his work are clarified and studied.



Study Problem:

Is documenting and analyzing the work of Omar El-Nagdi,- an international Egyptian artist- in a scientific and research approach, so that students can find scientific knowledge sources as references to understand new contemporary artistic philosophies easily, which have their intellectual, philosophical, and heritage roots at the same time.

Since the openness to global cultures and the rapid development of information and communication technology affected the emergence of many art schools that were stripped of everything that is traditional, and with the absence of knowledge of this heritage, many artists - especially the new generations - drifted with those art styles that obliterated the features of identity in their artworks.

The research limits:

• The research deals with the works of the artist Omar Al-Najdi in the time period between (1990-2019), which he produced during his settlement in Egypt, where he focused his artistic topics on the Egyptian identity due to the success and acceptance it achieved locally and internationally.



Objective:

Revealing the aesthetics of design inspired by the Egyptian traditional arts in the works of the artist Omar El-Nagdi,

Study Approach:

The researcher follows the inductive approach in collecting information and data, then the analytical descriptive approach for samples of the artworks of Omar El-Nagdi.
