Enabling women with severe hearing impairment to work in the garment industry

Abstract

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has emphasized that empowering women is one of the most important factors for sustainable development, and empowering women is one of the principles of human rights. Therefore, many bodies and sectors in various fields adopt women’s empowerment within their programs.

In order for women to reach the stage of empowerment, they must be develop their capabilities in various fields, as training is one of the most important axes of work development.The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has paid great attention to groups with disabilities, as the vision of the Kingdom 2030 included enabling special groups to obtain suitable job opportunities in order to achieve their independence and contribute to integration and coexistence with the surrounding environment as active members of society, and to provide all facilities and tools that help them achieve this success. The Authority for the Care of Persons with Disabilities also aims to empower persons with disabilities, ensure that they obtain their rights, enhance their role in society, and work to develop the services provided by the authorities to them.

Research aims to train groups with severe hearing disabilities on some clothing techniques industry skills to enable them to work in clothing factories, and it targets a sample of Saudi women with severe hearing disabilities in the cities of Jeddah and Makkah Al-Mukarramah. The training takes place inside a clothing factory with field visits to ready-made clothing factories.

The importance of the research is contributing to improving the quality of life for people with hearing disabilities by investing in their latent energies and transforming them into productive hands. The research followed the descriptive and experimental approach to answer the research questions and verify its hypotheses. The research concluded that there are statistically significant differences between the skills acquired by people with hearing disabilities before and after applying the program in favor of the post-application, it was also possible to form a positive trend for the research sample towards the proposed program.
