Abstract

Urban surroundings exert a significant impact on human existence, molding experiences and affecting the overall well-being of society. This study investigates the impact of murals on the development of cultural identity and the enhancement of lively and dynamic urban environments. The study introduces a methodical approach to design that integrates Christopher Alexander's notion of fifteen qualities of totality with a sensory model for self-directed learning. The symbiotic relationship between murals and urban environments is represented as having numerous components, encompassing aesthetics, social engagement, cultural sustainability, and urban regeneration. The objective is to enhance murals beyond their superficial decorative function and imbue them with the ability to have a constructive influence on the socio-cultural environment of metropolitan areas.



In addition to , the urban environment acts as the surface on which the story of human existence is depicted. Murals have a significant role in strengthening the narrative, fostering community identity, and improving the overall urban experience. This study examines the various aspects of murals, analyzing their ability to change public areas, promote pleasant relationships, and enhance the psychological, social, and economic well-being of city residents.



The study presents a comprehensive approach to mural design, taking influence from Christopher Alexander's theory of fifteen qualities of totality. Theoretical framework, in conjunction with a sensory model, constitutes the foundation of a methodical approach. The sensory model serves as a mechanism for autonomous learning, enabling designers to incorporate murals with cultural profundity and significance. The deliberate curation and modification of symbols and texts derived from cultural history.
