The Aesthetic and Formative Values of Mural Painting Scenes in Ancient Egyptian Art As a Suggested Introduction to Appreciating Contemporary Wooden Murals

Abstract

The art of mural painting is considered one of the oldest formative arts throughout the ages since the caveman until now, and it will remain one of the artistic means most expressive of successive historical eras. Given the importance of this type of art as a means of expressing the extent of the cultural progress of peoples throughout the ages in general and the civilization of Egypt in particular, Ancient Egyptian wall painting has distinctive and unique formative values that differ from other arts. We find it replete with many everyday, religious and funerary themes that described the Pharaonic civilization as one of the greatest and oldest civilizations throughout history.

The research deals with studying the aesthetic and plastic values of mural scenes in ancient Egyptian art and using them as a suggested entry point for appreciating contemporary wooden murals, by clarifying the importance of wall painting in general and ancient Egyptian in particular. The research problem centers on the need to provide an analytical study of the aesthetic and plastic values of wall painting scenes. With ancient Egyptian art as a suggested entry point for appreciating contemporary wooden murals, the research then aims to shed light on some of the aesthetic and plastic values of the mural scenes in ancient Egyptian art and to benefit from them in the field of woodwork through the analytical study of selected examples of mural paintings in ancient Egyptian art in the ages ( The Old, Middle, and New Kingdom) are seven ancient Egyptian murals. The analytical study included several items, namely: data for each mural in terms of name, origin, and location, and its plastic and aesthetic values to benefit from in extracting proposed technical and plastic methods suitable for a contemporary wooden mural inspired by art. Ancient Egyptian, identifying several suggested entrances for appreciating these murals. The research also included a presentation of the most important recommendations and results by arriving at the aesthetic and plastic values of some models of wall painting in ancient Egypt, as they are proposed entrances for appreciating contemporary wooden murals.
