Abstract

The mural painting flourished in modern times as artistic schools appeared and sought to innovate the artwork so as to express the internal movement in it, so the walls became more “dynamic”. In mural design, the concept of internal movement has evolved towards a new curve, changing it from just a means of design to an essential element around which the design revolves. The rest of the elements seek to achieve internal movement inside the artwork.

It is crystal clear that the internal movement is mainly merged among the Futurists, as in their works, they relied on the element of time as well as the expression of movement and speed. That’s why, they used colors and lines to express movement in the artwork and make it appear in continuous movement.

However, the visual elements can express the internal movement including point, line, space, color, among others. Line is considered one of the most important element in the formation of an artistic work and has great importance in the two and three dimensional visual arts. Subsequently, a single line, on the surface of an artistic work, can create a movement with the space through the entire work. In case, the space divides the complete line, it creates a rhythm that implies dynamism and potentiality that give us an elusive movement within the work. Under the condition of having a line or other lines, a vital visual language is created in this space. The vocabulary of this language changes if the length, size, or inclination of any of these lines. It will produce a number of artistic relations that results in dynamic rhythms that imply movement within the artwork.

Another factor in expressing movement is color, which is an integral factor in conveying the sense of internal movement of the artwork through gradation of colors or through using multiple and varied colors which makes the work lively and dynamic. In conclusion, it was found that artists have paid attention to the element of color as it has become one of the most major elements for expressing internal movement in a work of art.
