Aesthetic proportions in Victor Horta’s work as an inspirational vision for furniture design

Abstract

Rarely has anyone been able to stand out and present a design vision to emerge into design reality, as the artist "Vector Horta" did, as he was an architect interested in details and also a painter and graphic designer. He was not just a designer of the building, but he cared and designed the furniture and all the interior accessories. His direction and theories were in The design is integrated and rich in details. The Great Exhibition in 1851 had a huge impact that ignited the thinking of many artists and creative people at that time, as it contributed to promoting advertising, trade and technology, He also contributed to encouraging the establishment of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, calling for the development of decorative arts and focusing on developing the aesthetic and functional aspects of various fields. He also advised the designers and craftsmen of the Arts and Crafts movement to return to nature.

This research deals with a period of modern art, which is the “Art Nouveau” period in the field of architecture, interior design, and furniture, through analyzing and describing the works of the artist “Victor Horta,” and adapting his study of design through a set of characteristics and principles that the artist applied in His works include flowing, curved, and undulating lines, and the use of decorations and natural shapes inspired by flowers and plants in forming simple furniture to keep pace with the latest developments and to revive the artist’s design philosophy through the practical application of furniture
