Abstract

Egypt is a great country known for having a very rich and diverse architectural heritage, from the many civilizations that have existed on Egypt land. Sadly, some of these heritage sites have been totally neglected for decades, which is causing them to deteriorate. It is essential to find solutions to these problems and protect these sites. With the advancements in technology, virtual heritage technology and historical architectural models can be used to showcase these sites and help preserve them, this raises awareness of these locations around the world while also helping their cultural, economic, and tourism aspects.

Nowadays, with the increasing awareness of society and its interest in all types of culture, especially the architectural and historical heritage, which is considered one of Egypt’s most important heritage wealth, some new concepts have been developed in the way of preserving and restoring heritage sites.

These new concepts depend on the huge progress in computer science in general, and virtual reality science in particular, and their ability to create simulates reality through augmented reality ways.

The three-dimensional architectural models and their various types in comparison to historical virtual tours, and how fare virtual heritage technology can benefit Egyptian heritage sites, and the cultural and economic impact of applying this technology to heritage sites are all topics covered in this research. Furthermore, the research will spotlight of virtual heritage for some Egyptian heritage sites and historical architectural models which display at the Egyptian Capitals Museum. A SWOT analysis will be performed to identify Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats and potential solutions before formulating results and recommendations.
