Overweight and obesity are serious public health problems worldwide. Possible solutions to reduce excess weight include focusing on the emotional design of food and beverage items and working to change certain habits and behaviors. Emotional design refers to creating designs that evoke emotions and result in positive user experiences. Emotions are an integral part of the human experience, influencing consumers' decisions, actions, and interactions with others.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a person with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25 or higher is defined as overweight, and a person with a BMI of 30 is defined as obese.
Obesity is a major health issue, affecting more than half of women (53%) and nearly half of men (45%). By 2035, obesity is expected to affect more than 1.9 billion people worldwide, representing nearly 25% of the global population. Obesity rates among adults have more than doubled worldwide since 1990, and quadrupled among children and adolescents between the ages of 5 and 19. "We eat first with our eyes." This popular proverb can be directly attributed to eating habits. People primarily use their visual perception to predict how much food they need to feel full, and accordingly, fill their plates.
The research turned to the emotional design of tableware in particular to address the problem of excess weight and influence user culture and preferences. Emotional design also plays a role in changing eating patterns, cooking preferences, and food presentation.
Hence, the research problem arose by answering the following question:
- Does tableware design play a role in controlling an individual's food consumption?
- Does the design of glass tableware using emotional design play a role in changing negative habits and behaviors of individuals and society, and can it influence changes in user culture?
The research also aims to:
- Improve user behavior by modifying their eating habits and guiding them through the design of glass tableware.
- Designing emotional tableware can change eating habits in terms of appetite and food quantity, and affect emotions and feelings.
The importance of this research lies in:
- Improving the positive dining experience through designing emotional tableware.
Research hypothesis:
The research hypothesizes that designing tableware using emotional design has an impact on eating habits and improves individuals' positive behavior and habits.
