Abstract

Sufi visions have always shaped its overwhelming and visible presence in the films of Tunisian director Nasser Khmer, through radiations of a sensual and cognitive aesthetic nature to man's journey through the desert of the universe. This was clearly reflected in the 2005 production of Papa Aziz, in which the director sought to embody the harmonious relationship between man and the vast space of the Sahara, about which Khmer says: "The desert is the closest thing that gives the incarnation of the universe when man becomes an infinite point in its vast void." Hence, his films inspire a sense of Sufi reflections. The aesthetic dimensions of the nature of the Sahara are reflected in the movements of its sand and terrain, its spaces and the richness of its tales, transmitted by the human psyche, and by its bright, spirit-conscious nature through profound meditation that inspires the spirit of the knowledgeable.

This research seeks to analyze the visual narrative of the film "Baba Aziz" from the director's visual experience and to monitor the mystical dimensions of the anthropological connotations associated with the visible and the perceived, demonstrating the extent to which the poetic sense of its spiritual and mystical dimensions is approached, and to evoke the underlying meanings of the Arab Sahara, by enabling the formative formations of the Saharan world. The reference to the color connotations of costumes and ornaments reflects the visual language of Islamic art, with symbolic and philosophical dimensions, which emphasizes belonging to the Arab identity. Focusing on the aesthetic dimensions of Sufi characters who take care of the serenity of hearts, and looking wisely at the consequences of things, this is what the director tried to emphasize through the film's main character, which involves an ascetic character, which shows a symbolism more like a deep visual manifestation of abstract philosophical gloss. She invites the recipient to meditate, enhancing the human sense of the place of sponsorship for the people of serenity and upgrading the aesthetic taste.
