Abstract

The 20th century saw significant technological advancements that paved the way for the emergence of new philosophies and formulations in the fields of design and art, particularly in terms of both form and content, facilitated by new digital media. Digital technology has become the language of the modern era, where digital systems are integrated into computer units, processing and reimagining conceptual elements, and transforming them into artistic designs that surpass traditional static properties to become dynamic and multidimensional. This transformation is based on the interaction between the viewer and the artwork, turning mural surfaces into a medium for reciprocal interactive communication between the audience and the art piece.

The world is undergoing a fundamental shift in art and design practices, driven by the rapid progress in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. This research aims to explore both the current and expected impacts of AI on contemporary artistic styles, with a particular focus on its influence on mural art as a visual medium where artistic expression intersects with the urban environment. The study employs a qualitative analysis of a range of murals created using AI tools or directly influenced by them. It highlights the application of machine learning algorithms and generative art techniques in mural design and investigates how these technologies help expand the boundaries of human creativity while transforming the relationship between the artist, the audience, and the physical space.

The findings suggest that AI is not a replacement for the artist, but rather a collaborative tool that reshapes the creative process, generating new aesthetic patterns that reflect a dynamic interaction between humans and machines. When discussing the impact of AI applications in art and design, it is evident that there are both advantages and disadvantages. Some support the use of this technology, while others oppose it in defense of intellectual property rights and to preserve the artist's personal touch. This research was initiated to address these challenges and assess their implications for the development of design.
