Abstract

When addressing the principle of strengthening self-identity and highlighting it in light of contemporary art and culture, this is done by looking carefully at the distinctive elements that express architectural and cultural identity, and drawing inspiration from them in all artistic and applied fields and specializations.

The thought of drawing inspiration from this architectural element, which is the Crenellations of mosques, came about because of what they contain of deep symbols, rich decorations, and successful uses of abstraction and deep and expressive simplification at the same time. The idea of the research came from drawing inspiration from the Crenellations element and reusing the aesthetics of their formations in the interior design of schools, especially primary school sections. This was done by using the abstract geometric composition and aesthetics of these Crenellations inspired by the facades of several famous Egyptian mosques, and collecting them in a thoughtful design form, whether in murals, cladding, partitions, and various internal architectural determinants, so that they serve as a cultural and aesthetic awareness and instill a love for our distinguished heritage and attachment to it in the new generations of children. This comes by getting used to and adapting to exposure to the rich architectural and heritage elements to serve as a high-end visual nourishment, nourishing the artistic and architectural sense, and training their senses to appreciate architecture and the arts even if they do not work in them or become professionals in them later.

The research is divided into two sides, the first is the descriptive analytical side and the other is an applied side:

The descriptive aspect comes by addressing the Crenellations technically and architecturally, shedding light on their designs and various masses, and what each of them symbolizes and analyzing them.

As for the other aspect, it is the applied aspect in which some interior design solutions will be presented for a space in a special section for the primary stage of one of the Egyptian schools, and how to apply the design imagination inspired by the balconies of Egyptian mosques in a modern, distinctive and attractive way for children at this age, spreading the traditional architectural knowledge that is characterized by authenticity and richness in addition to symbolism and preserving it.
