Abstract

The tourism sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is currently witnessing remarkable development, enhancing the growth of the national economy in accordance with the Kingdom's Vision 2030. According to forecasts by the World Tourism Organization, the number of tourists arriving in the Kingdom is expected to rise to 1.6 billion by 2030. UNESCO has also emphasized that handicrafts are a field of innovation and creativity, contributing to increased economic growth and income in various countries around the world and preserving the cultural identity of societies (Youssef, 2020).

Given that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia possesses a vast heritage of distinctive crafts and handicrafts, the state has recognized the importance of this sector as part of its efforts to diversify the economy and reduce its total dependence on oil. In the context of developing a strategic vision aimed at re-employing capabilities and potential in various fields, the Kingdom's Vision 2030 emerged as a key tool for achieving ambitious economic goals. The crafts and handicrafts sector was not far from the vision; rather, it was one of the vital areas that received special attention, due to its well-established infrastructure and its close connection to current and future cultural and tourism development opportunities. The craftsmanship cultural heritage in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is considered one of the fundamental elements of the Saudi people's civilization. It is the primary link between the past, present, and future, and constitutes an essential part of national identity. These handicrafts are produced by women and men using traditional skills and tools. They are characterized by their craftsmanship and high quality, enhancing the value of heritage and enabling generations to learn about their past and cultural identity (Heritage H., 2024). Therefore, the Heritage Commission has focused on the crafts and handicrafts sector in the Kingdom and has developed a strategy to develop it in several areas. One of the most important aspects of this strategy is the establishment of craft creativity centers in all regions of the Kingdom. Traditional handicraft centers are among the most prominent local tourist destinations, so it is important to focus on their interior design using motifs that reflect heritage identity, such as Islamic and Arabic motifs. Islamic motifs are among the most prominent features of Islamic art, reflecting a rich history and diverse culture. These motifs are clearly evident in mosques and palaces, where they are used on doors, windows, and ceilings.
