Abstract

Introduction:

The arts of Arabic calligraphy and ceramics represent two essential pillars of Islamic heritage, both reflecting the essence of Islamic civilization. Arabic calligraphy has made a significant mark on ceramic art, not merely as decorative motifs on vessels and plates, but as an integral element of ceramic surface treatment using diverse techniques. This interaction between calligraphy and ceramics goes beyond mere ornamentation to form a profound visual and conceptual dialogue. The integration of calligraphic lines and letterforms with the varied forms of ceramic objects creates a unique aesthetic harmony, emphasizing the balance between form and content.

This research gains its significance from the richness of this interdisciplinary field, which offers substantial benefits for art education students. It aids in enhancing their creative capabilities and motivates them to explore and reinterpret their cultural heritage through contemporary artistic expressions that reflect their identity.

Research Problem:

The study investigates the mutual influence between Arabic calligraphy and ceramic forms to achieve aesthetic integration and visual harmony. It raises key questions: What factors determine the appropriate selection of a calligraphy style that aligns with the ceramic object's outer contour? And how can this integration contribute to developing students’ design and compositional skills?

Research Hypotheses:

1. The style of Arabic calligraphy applied in ceramic design significantly affects the aesthetic integration and visual appeal of the final work.

2. Selecting a suitable calligraphic style helps develop students' compositional and design abilities, leading to a balanced and harmonious integration between calligraphy and ceramic forms.

Research Objectives:

1. To analyze the relationship between Arabic calligraphy styles and ceramic form design, aiming for visual and aesthetic harmony.

2. To identify the factors influencing the selection of a calligraphy style that complements the ceramic form, aiding students in enhancing the artistic quality of their work.

Research Importance:

1. Introducing a new educational approach in teaching ceramics by incorporating Arabic calligraphy as a central design element.

2. To help students achieve aesthetic balance by integrating cultural heritage into ceramic art.

Methodology:

The research follows both an analytical and experimental approach.

• The analytical part explores:

1. The nature of aesthetic integration

2. Artistic and structural features of Arabic calligraphy

3. Criteria for selecting calligraphy styles in relation to ceramic forms

• The experimental part involves a practical application where students examine different styles (Kufi, Diwani, Thuluth) to understand their impact on ceramic composition, considering form, technique, and visual clarity.
