Abstract

It is not hidden from designers the importance of studying the third dimension represented by three-dimensional models as a stage of implementing three-dimensional artistic glass models. The model is the first physical representation of a design that will be produced or developed. Therefore, it is considered the link between design and manufacturing. It is one of the main components in the design process, and there are types of it that are used. In the stages of developing and evaluating design ideas, and others involved in the production stages of artistic glass figures, the type of model is determined based on the first design idea. Wax models are considered (the subject of research) that are used in the production of artistic glass figures with formations that contain protrusions (undercuts) through the lost wax technique. It is one of the most difficult models, as it requires high skill and high precision in finishing, so it is subject to many considerations during implementation. The stage of preparing models is one of the most important steps in implementing the product, as it helps to show the aesthetic and functional values and highlight its dimensions and size clearly. From here, the problem, goal, and importance of the research emerged, which is represented in:

Research problem:

Lack of information on techniques for implementing wax models to produce artistic glass figures with prominent and recessed formations and protrusions through the lost wax technique.

Research Aims:

Reaching a set of considerations for different formation methods in a correct manner, which leads to the development of creative thought and the creation of glass works of a distinctive artistic nature.

Research Importance:

The research contributes to developing the creative thought of the glass designer by providing an information base on the different methods of implementing wax models that are used in the lost wax technique to produce artistic glass figures with prominent, recessed, and bulge formations.
